Topshop Wishlist

I accidentally found myself in Topshop the other day and for the first time in ages I found a million and one things I really wanted to buy. I have resisted for now but I can almost guarantee that I will own one of these items by the end of the week. After handing in three essays today, I deserve a treat right? I am very much in a spring frame of mind as a few of my recent posts might have given away.

KATCH Slip On Trainers - Nothing says spring like some white trainers. I lived in my Primark white plimsoles last year. I think they give go with the outfit's bright and fresh vibe.
MOTO Mid Stone Joni Jeans - I tried on these jeans the other day and would have bought them if I had someone encouraging me. I'm not sure they fit my frame well so will be trying them on again in a few days and dragging Tom along to be like stylist.
Knitted Lace Hem Crop Jumper  - I only went into Topshop to try on some jeans and on the way to the dressing room this knit caught my eye. I love the colour, shape and lace detail. It fits really well so I'm struggling to find a reason not to buy it. Well I guess it's a bit pricey so praying Primark have a dupe!
Mint Turnlock Satchel - I haven't been that bothered about the satchel trend over the years - until now. The mint colour is simply gorgeous and I need it in my life. I don't really need another bag but I definitely want this one.
Wire Flower Stud Earrings - Keeping with the spring theme - how cute are these earrings? They are only a fiver so once again I'm a bit tempted...
Nails in Forsaken - I don't own any pastel coloured nail varnishes and while searching around, I've become fond of lilac tones. I think it goes with this ensemble pretty well.

I wish it was my birthday so I could ask for all these items as presents. I guess I have to think of some of these items as investments that are worth spending some money on! What's on your topshop wishlist at the moment? Let me know what you think of this outfit and leave your links with the comments below! <3

February Beauty Haul

I'm completely rushed off my feet this weekend. It's a pretty busy time at uni but I really wanted to share the few bits and pieces I've recently purchased from Superdrug. I will be doing full reviews on a few of these products in the near future as I have already fallen in love with them!

Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation - I've been looking around for a while for a new foundation and after tweeting for advice and reading other bloggers reviews I thought this one would suit my skin. It took me a while to get used to it as I usually go for a more matte finish but I now love it. Expect a review soon!

Sleek Blush by 3 (Californ.i.a) - I was very hesitant to use cream blushers but it's a lot easier than sounds and the results are amazing. This is by far by favourite beauty purchase in a long time. I'll be reviewing and swatching these in the next week or so.

MUA Undress Your Skin shimmer highlighter - I have not used this product much yet as my new blushers has plenty of shimmer. From what I have used it's been easy to use and adds a really subtle glow.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - My old one was running out so it was time to get a new one. They do quite a few more colours than I remember so instead of medium, I got light medium as my skin is quite a bit paler over winter. Cannot fault this product and if you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll know how much I rate it!

MUA eyeliner - This is another top-up. It's just a standard £1 eyeliner that you can't really go wrong with. It comes with a built in sharpener in the lid which is incredibly handy.

The Student Link-Up #7

I'm blaming the stress of upcoming deadlines on how ill I am this week. I have a bit of a cold and every time I sneeze, my laptop decides to stop charging. On a more positive note, it's that awesome time of the week where we get to check out some awesome student bloggers and see what they've been posting recently!

Post of the Week
Rebecca from Polkadot Notebook Blog linked her post on Advice for Balancing Education, Blogging and Employment last week. Many students need to work to afford university, especially as maintenance loans sometimes don't even cover rent! Student bloggers have to juggle their time wisely to allow time for their hobby without risk of jeopardising their degree. Life in general is about prioritising, time management and a hell of a lot of organisation. Rebecca's post answers fellow bloggers questions on this subject so please have a look at her advice and let her know you've visited!

Today I Love # 9

I cannot believe I haven't done one of these posts since Christmas!! It's been too long and it's about time I let you know the things that I've been loving recently. Tweet @Kayspray with the things you love today!

Modern Family  - If you haven't wanted this ABC comedy, I highly recommend you to once you've read this post. I watched the first few series a while back and recently rekindled my love for this simply hilarious American program. It is so well filmed and whoever thought of it is a true genius!

Baking - If you haven't already noticed, I have really been getting into baking this year. You can see my first baking post here. I've even got a cupboard dedication to all my mixing bowls, scales, cake tins and ingredients. I think it's such a nice hobby to have and something fun to do when you're having a night in with some friends. I hope you like my baking posts because there will be a few coming up soon!

Sweeties - I've always had a bit of a sweet tooth but recently these cravings have gone to a whole new level. Maybe that explains to baking... The photo above is of a waffle covered in nutella, thin slices of banana, crushed oreos and chocolate sauce with a side of ice cream. It was from a newly opened ice cream palour in Portsmouth called Scoops. From its opening it's been increasingly popular and you can see why. The portions are massive so I'm pretty sure you're supposed to share. Well I didn't get this memo and attempted that 'man vs food'-worthy waffle. I ate less than a half... I thought that would have ended my craving for sweetness but I've gone on to eat a chocolate bar or two since!

Bastille - I've had their song Flaws in my head quite a bit recently. I love this live version from Abbey Road. What do you think?

Little Glitter - Tasmin, a fellow essex blogger, has one of my favourite blogs. She does a mix of posts which means there is always something a bit different to read. She includes some seriously adorable photographs of her dog, Max in her lifestyle posts and also writes great beauty reviews and wishlists. Not only that she has a beautiful singing voice and has her own youtube channel! So please go check out her blog and channel and send her some love :)

So my dear readers, what have you been loving recently? Please send your blog links with your comments below and thank you for reading <3

S/S'14 Make-Up Trends

It's London Fashion Week and all those runway shows has got me thinking about spring trends - even if it feels so far away... I don't mind it being a bit chilly but the rain really has to calm down for a bit. Whoever is luckily enough to be FROW this week, I am incredibly jealous and looking forward to seeing your posts. I've been streaming some of the shows whilst working on some essays - oh the glamorous life I lead!

I'm currently sitting at the library on a little break and the sun is out for the first weekend in what seems like months. You can tell people are jumping at the sight of sunshine. There are people in lighter cardigans, pastel colours and many hints that spring is very much wanted. The nice weather and LFW has inspired me to do a post about my two favourite make up trends for S/S 2014.

I've never been one for colourful lips - until now. I have a new found love for bright lip sticks and cannot wait for the brighter weather to compliment these brighter tones. In this photo I am wearing Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable in Rendezvous that I reviewed quite recently. Seeing coral on the catwalks is like seeing the first few daffodils appear! I'm not sure I can pull off the look half as well as other people can (those models suit everything god dammit!). I really like the look of Sleek's True Colour lipstick in Coral Reef and Maybelline's Coral Crush.

I am not yet ready to let go of the glitter and shimmer that graced my eyes over Christmas. Fortunately a sheer face with a hint of shimmer is on trend for this spring. To complete a fresh looking face, golden eyes are all the rage and is perfect for any occasion. This golden eyes look was created using my MUA undressed palette. I personally love neutral tones when it comes to eye make-up - a definite favourite look for the upcoming season!

What are your favourite make-up trends for the hopefully warmer and sunnier climate? Don't forget to leave your links in the comment box below <3

The Student Link-Up #6

I don't know about you lovely lot, but I'm having a pretty productive week. I can't afford not to at the moment with the amount of deadlines looming at the end of this month. February is going too quickly - in fact this whole year is! It's now the sixth week into this academic term so I think that's half way through. Then there is exams and then summer... Oh god life is just running away from us! Let's stop worrying about the very near future and focus on what is really important: this week's Student Link-Up.

Post of the Week
Caitlin from IDS has had a 'post of the week' a little while back and I chose her link-up from last week because it's a subject close to my heart. Her post, Bite the Ballot: Why Young People Should Vote! talks about an organisations hope to get us all politically active. It's completely understandable why people aren't involved in local, national and European politics. I'm studying a very politically-orientated course and I even find it very overwhelming. I definitely believe it is not very accessible to the general public and more needs to be done to get people more interested and involved in our political system - it's called democracy because it's meant to be for the whole population! So please give Caitlin some love and share your views on this subject.

The Wanderlust Tag

Read my latest #AskTwitter post?  Well I have been in a bit of an adventurous mood recently. I want to go explore the world. Just jet off somewhere exotic and leave these essays behind! Leona from OhLeona did this tag last month.

1. Your most treasured passport stamp?
I don't have any on my most recent passport as I've only been in Europe. However I had some from New Zealand, LA and Tunisia on my last one. New Zealand is my most treasured! The photo above is one taken in New Zealand 2002.

2. Can you recite your passport # from memory if asked?
I don't have a clue what a passport # is... If it's important please comment and I'll crack on with memorising it.

3. Preferred method of travel; planes, trains or automobiles?
Without hesitation I am going to say 'automobiles' or as I often call them, 'cars'. You can take as much stuff with you as you want and have the music however you want it. I really want to do a European road trip and eventually a US road trip. A lot of planning and money needed for this type of adventure so may be a while yet.

4. Top 3 travel items?
Kindle, pack of cards & flavoured water. All of these things are essential for a flight. I'm stuck to my kindle on holiday and get through quite a few books. I can't begin to imagine taking the actual books with me - would take up so much room and weight of my luggage. Tom and I love a card game or five. If you want me to give instructions on how to play our favourite games - let me know! It's important to keep hydrating while travelling and I find water is so tasteless that I don't bother sipping it often. Flavoured water seems a decent alternative - a strawberry or peach flavour would be amazing!

5. Hostel or hotel?
Hotel please. If I'm going on holiday, I want to feel safe and comfortable. I've never been to a hostel before so I can't comment much on them. I'd rather go to a decent hotel though!

6. Are you a repeat visitor or do you explore new places?
I definitely prefer to go to different places. I feel like going to the same place a few times is like trying to relive memories. Chances are you'll be disappointed and spoil the wonderful memories you previously had. There are so many places in the world to explore so even if it's a different part of the same country, you'll have a whole new adventure waiting for you.

8. Favourite travel website?
I often use Expedia when I'm lusting over holidays. Thomas Cook often have some decent deals on. Trivago compares hotel prices from different websites which is very handy. Even if you think you've found a good deal on a website, check the comparison websites just in case you find better offers!

9. Where would you recommend a friend to visit? Name city & why.
I've already mentioned this place but if you can do a bit of travelling around New Zealand, I'd 100% recommend it.  Particularly around Auckland and Rotorua. The whole country is breathtaking... You'll get a good few snaps out of it!

10. You're leaving tomorrow, money is no option, where are you going?
I know we said about not going to the same place twice and I've mentioned it a few too many times here but I really want to go to the Lord of the Rings "Journey through Middle Earth" holiday. You get to travel around seeing all the scenery and sets for the lotr and Hobbit films. That's the geekiest side of me!

If you have yet to do this Wanderlust Tag - I tag you!! If you do it please leave your links in the comment box below <3

The Cookie Monster

The other week I got a bit excited in ASDA. It's understandable to get excited in the Disney Store, Accessorize (ooh shiny things) and Lush but for most people, it's nearly impossible to be hyper in ASDA... Unless you are in the baking section. I really went overboard. I wanted to buy lots of new cooking equipment, scales, different coloured spatulas, mixing bowls, baking trays! Just thinking about it makes me a little light-headed.

Where did all this come from? Well I've always loved the idea of baking and made the occasional chocolate cake, but since coming to uni my love for making a mess in the kitchen was lost (but the kitchen still managed to be a mess). Well student loans came through and Kayspray wanted to get into a new hobby - see resolutions post here

Tom and I made a marble cake and a normal sponge cake already and I really didn't have my head screwed on. I didn't take a single photo during the baking process or the eating part. Luckily you didn't see me stuff my face but it could have been a wonderful baking post.

Cookies
This recipe makes about 12 cookies and I personally think they are decent dupes of Millie's Cookies. Shh don't tell Millie! I've made more than a few batches recently with some of the girls at uni. It's one of the only foods I can think of that I enjoy at the unbaked, half-baked and fully baked stages.

Ingredients
125 grams of butter
125 grams of caster sugar
80 grams of light brown soft sugar
1 medium sized egg
225 grams of self raising flour
A teaspoon of vanilla essence
As many chocolate chips or chocolate buttons as you desire

Start by pre heating your oven to 180C. Then soften the butter and cream it together with both the sugars. This is often my version of a work-out, alongside hoovering and cleaning the house. Once you feel you've burned a few calories (so you can eat more cookies), add in the egg, vanilla essence and bit by bit add the flour. This is a fool proof recipe in my eyes - as long as you don't get egg shell in the mixture. When you're confident that everything is mixed together, add the chocolate chips. We had two 100g packs of milk and white chocolate chips on our first go and then giant chocolate buttons the next - both worked well.

If you don't accidentally eat the mixture at this point, use your hands to mould the dough into cookie like shapes. If they don't look very big, do not fear - they will expand a lot in the oven. Our mixture made enough for 12 decent sized cookies with a little bit left in the bowl to eat while waiting. I don't have a clue how long to leave them in for but make sure you keep checking them. I'd say leave them for 8 minutes and from then onwards check every few minutes. It depends how well done you want them. We got ours out when they just started turning golden.

Leave them on the tray to harden for a bit before moving to a cooling rack or plate. This really is a simple non-technical recipe that results in some delicious gooey cookies!

If you try this recipe please post a photo on Instagram or Twitter and tag me to it @kayspray! If you have any requests for recipe posts, particularly baking, just let me know in the comments box or by email :)

The Student Link-Up #5

Another week of taking notes for seminar readings, handing in deadlines, starting new assessments and carrying a ton of books home from the library. Never fear, the Student Link-Up is here for another week of beauty, fashion, food and student-related posts - every cloud...

Post of the Week
This week I'm highlighting a blog I've been following for ages. This link-up isn't all about the academic side of university. It's for those amazing high street bargains and reviews of products that us student bloggers love to read. There is nothing better than finding decent dupes of high-end products. Megan from Student Style has done a number of high street beauty reviews. Last week she link-up a review of Barry M's Smokin' Hot Eyeshadow and Blush Palette. I've only ever tried and loved Barry M nail varnishes but after seeing her review and swatches I might need to make a little investment. For £6.49 it would be rude not to! Go check out Megan's blog and show some love <3

Have You Heard... Warpaint

I can't believe how long it's been since my last post for this series. Please forgive me for the lack of rhythm based blog entries. Fortunately a band that I have muchos love for, has released a new album and it is now on spotify! I have been a fan of Warpaint for many a year now. It's the perfect music to relax/walk/do work to/listen to...

Album Cover Art
I can't remember the first time I heard Warpaint but I do remember the first time I decided I wanted to go see them. I think they were at Reading Festival and I was watching their performance on TV one evening. I was so relaxed and almost hypnotised watching them. Apparently they are playing at Parklife Weekender, I'm so tempted to go see them. I missed them when I was at Bestival a few years back - I really regret that.

I love their first album. It's been on my relaxed Spotify playlist forever. If you haven't already go check out Billie Holiday and Undertow. Today I want to introduce their latest album. It's undeniably Warpaint when you first hear it and in my opinion its an extension of their first album. I'm not complaining at all - the songs aren't similar. Each song is unique to the next which makes their music all the more interesting to me. There is a lot of acoustic guitars and percussions in this album making it even more chilled.

I could drive
Drive myself crazy
But at this time
I want to listen.
(Drive, Warpaint)

Warpaint Factfile
Info: This indie psychedelic rock band started out in LA in 2004. It is currently made up of four girls who were nominated for BBC's Sound of 2011. They have just over 45,000 followers on Twitter and their Rough Trade Sessions version of Billie Holiday has reached over 1.3 million views.
If you like: The XX (Warpaint have opened for them) then you may like Warpaint. They have such a unique sound I can't think of any bands to compare them with!
Listen to: Love is to Die, Teese & Go In

Let me know what you think of Warpaint! Have you heard of them before this post? If you have any recommendations for the next Have You Heard post please comment below :)
