The Student Link-Up #4

Typically my eighth laptop charger broke this week. Yes you read that correctly - eight! I've had this laptop for two and a half years and managed to break that many chargers. Heaven knows what I'm doing wrong. Due to this inconvienience, blogging isn't the easiest thing to do at the moment. I'm currently using the boyfriend's laptop and will be spending too much time on the library computers the rest of the week. I really hope you lovely lot have better luck with technology than me!

Post of the Week
The post I want to mention from last week's link-up is Jessica Gracie's. So many students suffer with lack of sleep or messed up sleeping patterns and just overall tiredness. Jessica's post, Beauty Sleep, shares tips on how to relax and have a much needed good night of sleep. I have made a conscious effort to do two of the things she mentioned. I try not to spend as much time in my room so it's mainly for relaxation and sleep. Secondly I'm attempting to keep my sleeping pattern in check. It's too easy to press snooze instead of getting up at a reasonable hour! Please check out Jessica's blog and let her know what you think of her tips.

January Haul

I haven't a clue how I've managed it but this is being posted on Tuesday evening! I've been having problems with my iCloud and all sorts to I didn't think I'd get the photos onto my laptop till the weekend. Fortunately I have found the time and motivation to get this done on time. I don't know about you but I love haul posts. I love writing and taking photos for them as well as reading and commenting on other peoples.

I have been a bit naughty and done some unnecessary much loved shopping. Fortunately I am usually very good with money and even in this case, I have only bought true bargains or items I couldn't imagine leaving behind. I was going to do a little fashion show with photographs of me wearing the clothes. However I've been extremely busy and when I'm free in the evenings the lighting in my room is terrible for photos!

Both: Primark  /  Both: £6
I bought these collared tops on different occasions. Sorry they have not been ironed but I guess that shows I wear them very often. They are the perfect tops for every season and occasion. Recently I've been wearing them under jumpers but I can't wait to wear them under casual cotton blazers this spring/summer!

All: Primark  /  Jeans: £8  /  Pjs: £5  /  Dress: £5
I love going into Primark and coming out with quite a few items and spending less than £20. All of these items were bought on different trips. I really shouldn't pop in there so much but it's so hard to resist. I saw these skinny jeans and instantly wanted it to be spring. They fit well and really are supersoft! I spotted the Bambi Pjs when I wasn't even looking for nightwear. I wouldn't have bothered if they didn't have Bambi on them. So adorable!! I picked up this dress on Saturday and thought I'd probably take it back in a few days. These dresses don't usually sit well on my frame but for £5 it was worth a try. I'm currently wearing it and it's a perfect fit. I was very surprised and will be going back to Primark on the hunt for this dress in different colours!

Jumper: Dorothy Perkins £14  /  Necklace: Primark £4
On Saturday I was casually walking about the shops in portsmouth and this jumper was stylishly placed on a mannequin. After having a good feel on the material, I had to snap it up! The lady at the till told me it was £14 which was a pleasant surprise because it was priced at £20. Happy days! I'm currently wearing the Primark necklace. I can't get enough of statement necklaces at the moment - they really make a plain outfit something a bit special!

Coat: Miss Selfridge
This is my pride and joy, the greatest bargain I have ever found... My smart coat is about 8 years old and barely fits me any more. Although it's been on my list, I've not found the perfect coat - until now! This coat was priced at £85 to begin with. Fortunately it was in the sale for £45. Even more fortunately there was a 20% student discount offer on at the time so this beauty only cost me £36!!! I love the pattern, the soft material and the fact you can detach the fur collar if you wanted. It's perfect in my eyes!

That is the end of my January Haul post. Please don't expect this post every month - I'm now trying to cut down on my less vital purchases. Please link your blogs in the comment box below and let me know what you think of my finds. <3

Quick & Easy Puff Pastry Tart

This is a post for all the people who don't particularly have the time to cook big elaborate meals. It's perfect for those evenings where you come in and calling up Dominos  is too tempting. Well these posts will be a lot cheaper than a large meat feast - even on Tuesdays! I'll be doing a few Quick & Easy guides every now and again. Hopefully my little tips and 'cheats' will inspire you to pretend to be a domesticated goddess!

Not many people have the time or patience to make their own puff pastry. You don't need to when it's so accessible to the supermarkets. This concoction of items can serve 1-2 people depending on how hungry you are and if you are adding a side of chips to it! It takes no longer than a few minutes to prepare this meal before throwing placing it in the oven.

Ingredients:
Puff Pastry
A few spoonfuls of tomato puree or pasta sauce
A tomato or two
Mozzarella
A few slices of ham

As most instructions will tell you, first pre-heat your oven to 220C or 200C Fan. I often put tin foil over the baking tray so it is easier to wash afterwards. Use as much or as little puff pastry as you want. Cut off a very thin border so the pastry layers can rise.
I treated this tart like a pizza. Firstly adding a few spoonfuls of pasta sauce and spreading it around the centre of the pastry. I purposely left a border for the pastry to rise into a crust. Add your toppings however you fancy - my lovely assistant Tom cut up our toppings and places them on top of the sauce.

Other ingredients you could use for this quick and easy recipe are: pesto, chicken, bacon, other cheeses, veggies... I mean the possibilities are almost endless! When you're happy with your tart, place it in the oven at 220C or Fan Oven 200 for 20 mins.

Tom and I made this tart for dinner and served it with chips. The only thing I'd change about it was the positioning of the ham -next time we will hide it under the cheese to avoid it burning. It tasted like a pastry pizza and has quickly become one of our favourite meals.

Have you ever used pre-made puff pastry before? If you have any Quick & Easy posts you'd like to be featured here as a guest post please get in contact! Don't forget to leave your links with your comments below.

The Student Link-Up #3

I don't know about you #sbloggers but since coming back to uni this year, I've not stopped. I have a cluster of deadlines for the end of February so planning on getting a few bits out of the way sooner than rather than later. I hope you are all coping with the work load and taking time to have fun too!

Post of the Week
On the topic of heavy workloads, the post being highlighted from last week's link up looks at ways to tackle procrastination. Caitlin from IDS linked up her post, 'How to Beat Procrastination'. It's something I'm pretty sure every human-being has to deal with at some point in their lives. I chose this post because I really agree with all her advice. It's so easy to let procrastination get to you but by being organised, comfortable and realistic, you really can have a much more productive study session!

#AskTwitter

It's that time of year when people start to book their summer holidays. If they aren't booking holidays they are certainly dreaming about it. I would love to just pack a bag and head off on an adventure right now but university deadlines are looming and money isn't exactly pouring out of my pockets.

This photo is from my amazing fortnight in Fuerteventura with Tom last summer. In some ways it doesn't seem like many moments have past since but in other ways, it's like a lifetime ago. Sadly I can't see us affording a luxury holiday this year. We need to buckle down with uni work and earning money for our final year. Hopefully we can go on a few weekend retreats and many road trips around the UK. If the weather is anything like last year, we will have plenty of time to relax in the sun!

So today's #AskTwitter post is obviously to do with holidays and travel. Here are some of the answers I recieved when I asked you lovely tweeties:
Where do you want to jet off to this year?

I must agree with all these tweets. I'd either love a sunny beach holiday or an exploring city kind. You still have time to get involved in this post! Just comment below where you're going this year or where you'd love to go in the near future. Thank you everyone who is involved <3

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Review

A few weeks ago I treated myself to one of Revlon's kissable balm stains. I'm not normally one for lip products. You'll find an assortment of Vaseline and other lip balms in my bag. Plus Tom really isn't a fan of them - I even have to wipe off a moisturising lip balm before kissing him!

Left: Honey  /  Right: Rendezvous

However when seeing this in Superdrug, it was something I had to try. For £7.99, which I used from a gift card, it would have been rude to say no. I loved the idea of a lip stain - it would stay on all day, not smudge or feel sticky or heavy. It sounded perfect. I bought the product in Honey as it looks like a very subtle colour and there was a greater chance I'd wear it compared to a bright pink or deep red.

So what did I think of this product? At first there is a nice shine and moisturising factor to the balm stain. As the shine wears off it's a nice matte colour that lasts ages. I mean it's insane how long this product lasts. After a house party, where I'd been eating and drinking pretty much constantly for 7 hours, you'd have thought I'd have re-applied it several times but no it was just brilliant. I woke up the next morning and you could still see it! The first time I used it my lips felt a bit dry with the product on after a while. I once put some Vaseline on top and once I'd got used to the product I didn't even notice I had it on.

I loved it so much I went back and got it in another colour! I prefer the subtle shades as I often like to draw attention to my eyes. It's like a bit of a rule to either focus on eyes or mouth when achieving a decent make-up look right? So I chose Rendezvous because the coral colour really appealed to the spring/summer girl in me who is waiting to come back out.

I apologise for the photos, I've been struggling with the lighting in my uni room and the photos were taken at different times on different days.. Anyway enough of my excuses - I hope you can see the colours! Have you tried this product or any other lip stains? Don't forget to send your links with your comments below <3

The Student Link Up #2

It's the second week of this link-up and I was really overwhelmed with the attention it received! Thank you to the people who took the time to get involved.

Post of the Week
Every week I will feature a post from last week that I particularly enjoyed and wanted to share with you.
This week's featured student blogger is Charley from Ramblings of a Beauty Blogger. Her post fitted perfectly with the student blogging community that is finally being created! Charley has started up a student blogger chat on Twitter under the hashtag #sbloggers. It is starting this Friday (17th Jan) at 8pm GMT. I will definitely be getting involved as often as possible to find more student bloggers and have some great discussions.

Turn your Uni House into a Uni Home

It is the people that make a house a home but at university sometimes you need a bit more than that. For most of us university is the first time we have our own home away from family. Student houses are these hollow shells with little personality. I for one think that is a good thing. It means it's your chance to make the house into the home you want it to be. I have come up with a items to hopefully inspire you to be creative with your new home.

1. Pluto Birdcage Chimes Tealight Holder from John Lewis - £9.50 After a long day at the library, you need to relax and chilling by candle light is one of my favourite ways to unwind. This tealight holder is simply adorable! The heat of the candle makes the bird cages rotate - now that's something to make your room feel special and of course homely.

2. ASDA Knitted Heart Cushion - £9 A cushion or two can make your university bed into a comfy haven. I love this plain kitted one because it'll go with lots of different bedding. Throughout my years at uni, my personality has shown most through the pattern of my bedding. With the rooms always being so beige (oh my god you're soooo beige), I always went for the brightest and deepest coloured covers.

3. KitVision 7 inch Digital Photo Frame from Amazon - £23.99 Not many student houses allow things to be stuck to walls. Last year I had a wall full of photos of friends from home, family and fresher memories. If you aren't able to create a mahoosive collage of selfies and incriminating snaps of your friends, then this is the next best thing. A digital photo frame allows you to have hundreds of photos stored up and displayed throughout the day. It fits perfectly on your desk or bedside table so you have constant reminders of happy times while you sit there revising and wishing your assessments would just do themselves already.

4. Meerkat Mug from Find Me A Gift - £5.99 It's  'too-early' o'clock and you need a nice hot drink to help wake and warm you up in your cold student accommodation. I'm sure any mug could do this task but surely a novelty mug, that reminds you of a happy memory or is just too cute to not smile at, would be a much funner option.

5. PacMan Magnets from Find Me A Gift- £4.99 Is looking at a plain fridge almost as depressing as looking at an empty one? The answer is yes. At my uni house we have a white board magnetically attached to our fridge so we can leave abusive messages and rude drawings for the rest of the house to be amused by. Then I found these magnets and oh my, I really want them. Give your fridge a total makeover with some novelty magnets and don't forget to restock your fridge every once in a while - then you have a reason to open your stylish fridge.

What do you think of my suggestions? If you have any others please comment below with links to your lovely blogs :)

The Student Link-Up #1

So excited to announce this little venture I began to think about before Christmas. It's a new year and a great time to start something a little different.

I have looked around A LOT for student based link-up and have found nothing. So here is the first ever week of The Student Link-Up. It is for student bloggers to share their posts about: uni experiences, student living, food, fashion, bargains, beauty bits, fancy dress ideas and all sorts. I personally thought this would be a great opportunity to discover lots of great blogs and hopefully get to know a couple of lovely student bloggers!

Ralphie

It was this time last year that this photo was sent to me by mum saying, "say hello to your new brother, Ralph". I was having a lazy day with Tom back at uni when I got this message and I couldn't contain my excitement! Ralph is a golden doodle with a brilliantly hilarious personality. He can be mistaken for being a sheep from a distance and recently decided to become very vocal for no reason. If he is sitting on you and you aren't stoking him, he will sign and hit you in the face with his paws.

This post is a little timeline of how much Ralph has grown and become the best, most cuddliest dog I've ever known. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have been a few of these photos already - I really can't help but share photos of this poser.

February - Ralph came home

April - Tom & I met Ralphie

June - Poor Ralph
On my way home from uni for summer, Mum broke the news that Ralph had broken his leg. He ran over a bike that was on the ground and got his leg caught in the chain. Being so young meant he recovered quickly and his hyperness never stopped. It was heartbreaking to see him limping about and it was a struggle to stop him getting too excited and damaging it any more. I'm so relieved to say he was back to normal in no time at all and has no problems with his leg now.

August - Poser Ralph loves being in front of a camera
September - Getting involved in my A/W Haul post

Three words to describe this pup: Cuddly, Dopey & Playful. He is such a loyal dog and has such a good understanding of human emotions. He knows when I need a big cuddle to cheer up or when I need to be left alone. More often than not I will want a cuddle! Whenever I sit on my bedroom floor to do my hair and make-up, he will just lump himself on top of me. Considering how big he now is, it's almost impossible to see the mirror.

December - 1 year old Ralph

It breaks my heart to have to leave him while I'm at uni! I'm pretty sure he misses me as much as I miss him. When I came home for Christmas, he was uncontrollably happy to have me home and has barely left my side since. I'm travelling back to uni today and not sure when I'm next home to see him. At least I know he won't forget me!

Christmas Day -  All wet and muddy from the rain but still cheeky enough to go on the sofa

The difference between the first and last photo is unbelievable! I don't think anyone was expecting him to grow so much. When he stretches his arms and legs he is just a little bit shorter than I am. Please send over your links and photos of your lovely pets via Twitter and in the comment box below!

My New Favourite Accessory

It feels like forever since I've written a style post and according to most people, there is no time like the present. I have recently become obsessed with statement necklaces, especially collar ones. By adding a statement necklaces to a plain top or jumper you can create a whole new outfit. I've gotten so many compliments for some of my oldest jumpers all because of a shiny new collar necklace. I've literally tipped my room upside down looking for my crochet one from Forever 21 that I wore in Somerset on nye. Maybe I left it there or it's in the car or I've stupidly put it in the wash.. Anyway because I can't show you my lovely ones - I've picked out a few of my favourite ones currently in a high street / online store near you!

1. Jamie Jewellery Chain Collar from ASOS - This was £77 but is now £17.50 so get it while you can - I do love a good sale find. I could see this necklace being worn over a thin black jumper, teamed with a leather jacket and a carefree pose.

2. Silver Beaded Bib Necklace from New Look - £9.99 I chose this necklace because it makes me feel all "Great Gatsby". It's so delicately detailed - people would be all up in your personal space to admire this stunning piece of jewellery. I guess that's a down side to wearing statement necklaces - on the plus side you're incredibly trendy.

3. Peter Pan Bead Bib Necklace from Claire's - £16 I won't lie to you, the fact that it is called a peter pan collar might make me want it a little bit more than I should. I'd wear this jewel studded item with a plain cream jumper and natural make up with a bit of a smoky eye.

4. Fancy Popcorn Bib Necklace from Forever 21 - £12.90 If you have ever been to a forever 21 shop you will understand what I mean when I say the accessory part is like the Mecca for all beads and gems. It's like walking into your shiny fantasies of what you wish your imaginary jewellery section of your massive walk in wardrobe would look like. This bib is no exception - so detailed yet simple. In my eyes it's what a statement necklace should be. Fancy Popcorn is a brilliant name for a necklace. One day I want my own jewellery range so I can have the wackiest of wacky names.

What are your favourite accessories at the moment? Let me know what you think of this post and please leave your lovely links with your very appreciated comments <3

2014

Another year has come to an end but never fear - another one is now beginning. Instead of dwelling on how fast the past year went, I want to focus on how I am going to make the most of 2014.

I celebrated the new year a bit differently to the drunken party antics I've traditionally been apart of the past few years. I've been down in Somerset for a few days with Tom and his parents. Tom and I wanted to do something a bit low key this year so decided to have a perfect cosy night in. We were snuggled up under tons of blankets, sipping on hot chocolate and nibbling some treats whilst watching a film or two. It was lovely not to wake up hungover in the new year.

New Year Resolutions

Will I get used to writing 2014? Eventually but for now this transfer of dates seems insane - besides the world was meant to end 2 years ago so I didn't plan on having to remember what the upcoming years would be. Speaking of planning, here are a few aims I have for 2014.

Keep in touch with friends - I'm sure its the same with everyone but you go through those times where you bury your head in the sand and when you pop up again you realise how isolated you've made yourself. Even if it's just a text every now and again wishing your friends well and letting them know you are thinking about them - I think that's more than people will expect.

Blog at least 3 times a week - I've done so well the past few months and with uni work coming up by the bucket full, blogging every other day might be a bit of a stretch. I want to post fun, useful, creative posts, not just any old thing to fill a gap.

Baking - With all these brilliant cooking shows about it's hard not to be inspired. I would love to do some baking and maybe even post about it this year. Being a bit more creative in the kitchen makes cooking a lot more fun and food a lot tastier!

Exercise - I'm sure this is high on most peoples lists. I definitely don't do enough exercise and being at uni, there are so many opportunities to be sociable whilst getting fit. I really want to get some friends together and play badminton.

Link-Up - I have a new and exciting project potentially starting up early this year. After looking around the blogosphere I have failed to find a student based Link-Up Party. With this in mind, I am hoping to start one up for student bloggers, whether its posts about uni life, bargains & budgeting or OOTD - this link-up will be for all kinds of posts. Let me know if you'd be interested in taking part!

What are your resolutions for 2014? How did you celebrate the end of last year and the beginning of this one?
